A revised timeline for the implementation of (EES) and (ETIAS)
A revised timeline for the implementation of the (EES) Entry & Exit System and the (ETIAS) European Travel Information and Authorization System was endorsed by the Eurpoean Union Home Affairs Ministers on March 5th.
Later this year, in October the EES is expected to become fully operational for travel to the EU while ETIAS is expected to follow a year later in the last quarter of 2026.
The EES was created to modernise border management of Schengen Countries, gradually simplifying border controls while simultaneously assisting in the prevention of identity fraud.
The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital border management tool for registering non-EU nationals traveling for short stays. As travelers cross the external borders of the 29 European countries the system will assist in managing people entering and exiting the EU.
The ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for non-EU visa-free nationals.
